Summer just seems to zoom along!
Happy Summer to all! Our Marquette and Prairie Star grapes look good, they have reached veriason (turned from green to purple and became delicious bird food ) about 2 weeks ago, so we netted them to keep the animals away. Now they just ripen until the sugar level gets up and the acid level goes down, then its Harvest time! At this point, the date is always a guess, but based on the last several years and our warm Summer so far, it should be on Sept 26, Oct 3, or Oct 10th. We’re hoping and tentatively planning on Oct 3rd, but our winery needs them harvested when they will make a great wine. We will start testing in early Sept, and we expect to be able to give you a firm date by mid September, we will announce the date ASAP, so you can plan to attend if possible.
By the way, our 2012 Marquette grapes were a major component that our winery fermented into an outstanding wine that won a major award at an International Wine Tasting in San Diego, California last Spring.
This year we plan to begin the Harvest at 11:00 A.M., and expect (hope) to be done by 3 P.M. We hope you want to join us for a Harvest Celebration Party immediately after, with lots of food, drinks and many yard games! We expect some seriously fun volleyball as well, progressing into a bonfire in the evening, we’ll find room for anyone who would like to stay overnight, as that’s been known to happen. Our goal is to make this FUN !
Meanwhile, all 3 of our charities are doing great. People Serving People continues to improve the lives for homeless families and individuals in St Paul, Habitat For Humanity of Minnesota continues for provide low income families quality and affordable housing, and Central Asia Institute continues to help to educate youth, with an emphasis on girls, in Afghanistan and Pakistan. We, Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard, have significantly contributed to each of these great organizations since 2010, and with your help we expect to again this with 100% of our income from this Fall’s Harvest.
As we have said before, we believe that we are all connected in this wonderful world, that when we act to help others to live a better life, we all benefit. Our lives are fuller, richer, and a cascade of improvement spreads throughout our world! We see it happening, and are proud be able to be a small but meaningful part of it all.
Peace and Charity,
Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard
