It Was a Beautiful Day For a Harvest in Pepin!

It was a beautiful day in Pepin during our October 3 harvest.  This year we picked 971 pounds of our Marquette. While this was a lot less than predicted; rest assured that we are taking the necessary steps to correct our vineyard management practices. We expect a much larger harvest, in the 5-6,000 pound range, next Fall. We are truly a work in progress.

As far as the harvest festivities, we had a great time!  Both in the picking of the grapes and a fun filled afternoon with great chili and lots of beverages, including our 2015 Altered States Apple, a bottle of which each of this years volunteers took home as a token of our appreciation! The fun continued on with as we tried to play volleyball, but got derailed in that effort.  As it was fun trying, we will try this again next year (but with a softer ball!)

Our total gross receipts from the harvest was $765.09. If we subtracted operating expenses there would have been no contribution, so we once again donated 100% of our gross receipts to our 3 charities, or $255.03 to each. Note our receipts from each charity posted in our Financial Section.

If you have not done so yet, please click on the following links to our 3 charities. All of these charities do such fantastic work!:

People Serving People

People Serving People is helping homeless persons and families get their lives back on track, with real positive results.

Habitat For Humanity

Habitat For Humanity of Minnesota continues to help deserving low income working families get into decent and affordable housing, with marked improvements in their outlook for a better and more productive lives.

Central Asia Institute

Central Asia Institute continues to educate both young and adult people, mainly females, in rural Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan. They are making such an important difference in these communities. We believe that these changes will continue to expand in the future.

None of these charities could not perform their missions without the financial help from their many contributors, we are a major contributor to them. We could not do this without your so positive support, by helping us with planting, pruning, netting, and harvesting. We and each of you can be proud of what we are doing, and we look forward to seeing you and your friends out in the future.

Now we of the Board of Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard get to rest until next Spring. We wish all a restful Winter, and look forward to seeing you in 2016.

Peace and Charity,

Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard
