A Winter Update from the Vineyard

Hello to all our volunteers!

It may not seem like it, but Spring is right around the corner! It seems that each Winter up here is getting longer and colder (nothing to do with us getting older, I’m sure).

We have  taken several steps to ensure that we have a large and healthy crop this Fall. Last November we killed a ton of competing grass (grapes vines are wimpy), and soil tested. This year, in addition to testing the soil and removing grass we will be doing 3 applications of granular fertilizer, as well as our usual pesticide and anti-fungal spraying.

We will be pruning the weekends of Feb 26, March 11, and March 18. Let me know if you would like to join this effort. We need to let you know that this is hard and cold work, and requires extensive teaching to be allowed to perform. If you have a strong interest in cold-hardy grape vine production, then you may want to consider this.

Give me a call, and I’ll fill you in further, if this interests you.

As usual all volunteers have an open invitation to stop by anytime during the Spring and Summer to view our progress, should you be down in the Pepin area.  We would love to take a break and show you around!

We plan to send out a vineyard progress news report sometime in May along with pictures of the vineyard.

Meanwhile,  we ask that you check out one or all of our 3 outstanding charities. Their work is so inspiring, and you know that your help has and will continue to enable them to continue to improve the lives of so many of our fellow citizens of this beautiful planet!

Peace and Charity,

Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard
