A Spring Update From the Vineyard!
We were so happy that we did not have to go through another “Planting Event” this Spring, so instead we happily donated $10.00 for every volunteer who has signed up on our website’s mailing list, or has “Liked” our Facebook page. Currently, we have 127 of you following our progress, so we were able to donate 127 x 10 = $1,270.00 to our 3 charities, or $425.00 to each. You can check out the receipts of these donations in our Financial Section. Not having to go through all expenses and work of a planting this spring was, frankly, exhilarating!
Our pruning in Feb- April, and the last in early May, went well. However, it was a real challenge, as we converted our Marquette vines from low cordon “ vertical shoot positioning “ to high cordon
“umbrella kniffen” style position, this change should make it very interesting this Fall at harvest, as the clusters will be all over the vines.
We continue to follow our 3 charities, and it is really exciting to see their progress. They are definitely making our world a better place, and all of our volunteers hard work has and will continue to help them in their missions. If you have not already, please check out the 3 charities in which we choose to support.
We challenge each of you to follow the links of 1, 2 or all of these charities, read about what they are doing, and make your own donation on your own of $10.00 or more. I just read through the Central Asia Institute’s latest website messages, and highly recommend that you watch the short videos which they recently posted, it is clear that we are making progress in the education of girls and boys, in that troubled region. Rest assured that your donation more than anything else, will help transform Central Asia to a more peaceful, equal, and prosperous community.
Our plans at the vineyard for the summer include; many days of shoot-thinning, nutrient and pesticide spraying, and the everlasting mowing of the lawn. Also, please do not forget that we have 3 volunteer event opportunities planned for late summer and early fall. We hope to see you there!
1. Friday, August 7: Netting.
- If you want to help with netting on Aug 7, just give me a call ( 763-354-0880 ), and I’ll fill you in on all of the details.
2. September, we will host TWO harvests: The Marquette harvest will be in early September and the Prairie Star harvest later on in the month. Remember, we never know the official date until 3-4 weeks prior, we will be sure to keep you as informed as possible through our News Section and these periodic website updates.
Additionally, in order to help increase donations to our 3 great charities, we can supply as many bottles of our wine as you would like for any party you may be planning (birthday, wedding, anniversary, etc ). Simply make an appropriate contribution in your name to one of our 3 charities, when they they let us know they have received the funds, the wine is yours! You get great wine and our charities benefit. Contact Us for further information or questions about this new program.
Anyone that has helped us with past plantings and harvests are always invited to stop by anytime for a vineyard visit. Pepin is a fun place to visit during the Summer and we highly recommend the Harborview Café for dinner. If we are in the area, we’d love the break to show you around. Give me a call at 763-354-0880 to see if we are at our farm and vineyard.
As such, Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard will continue on with your so important help to fulfill our mission: Helping to transform our world into a more peaceful, inclusive, and healthy place. We believe that the world needs our help, and that what each of us does really matters, that when we help others, there is a positive effect that comes back to each of us. We are all connected in this beautiful world!
Peace and Charity,
