Our first harvest was a success!
Our first harvest was a great success, thanks to all 46 of us! We removed bird netting from 750 vines, then picked a total of 2,296 pounds of Marquette grapes. We started about 10:00 am, stopped for a snack and coffee at 12:30 and completed work by 1:30.
We had a delicious lunch of chile, along with our Altered States Apple wine, other wines, various beers and other drinks. All had a fun time socializing, and Jim and Linda only wish we had more time to talk individually with all our great volunteers.
Our harvest of 2,296 pounds of grapes gave us $1,606 in income. Deducting operating expenses of $702 ( fuel: $160, repairs: $112, chemical sprays: $221, and picking expenses: $210 ), we generated a net income of $903.
On October 3 we mailed each of our 3 charities 903/3 = $301.00 in checks. We expect to post all 3 receipts by November 1… look for them, as they will be received and posted.
We could not have done this without the help of all 46 volunteers… YOU have made this a success, You have made these donations to each of our charities by joining in this effort. You have made our local, national, and international communities a better place… You are a Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard member! You are US, and the reason that our effort is such a “labor of love”.
Thank you, from all our Board Members.
We will have many other opportunities to volunteer next year, including pruning in March and April, trimming in May and June, netting in August, and next years harvest (estimated at 5,000 pounds) next October. By signing on as a “Friend” on this website, we will have your name and email/telephone on our secure database, so that we can inform you of future “events” such as our harvest.
