Spring Pruning and Plans for the Summer!
Our Spring pruning in March went well, we Pruned our 500 Prairie Star, about half of which will produce 1,000 – 2,000 pounds of grapes this Fall.
Our mission is to have Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard serve a source and inspiration to support our 3 great charities. With this in mind, we have made a $1000 contribution for each of our 4 volunteer pruners (Brad, Jim, Linda, and Jim) for a total of $4000 or $1333.00 to each charity. See receipts posted in our Financial Section. Thanks to each of them as we couldn’t have done it without them, we so appreciated their help on those cold and rainy days!
Our plans this year are to plant 50 more Dwarf Honeycrisp apple trees in early June, for a total of 100. We hope to have a Honeycrisp crop in the Fall, 2018.
Plan to join us for our 2nd Annual Fall Fun Charity Party on Saturday, September 30. Starting at 2 pm, we plan to have games; including volleyball, boche-ball and bean-bag toss, but also more traditional hippy stuff like frisbee and rapping, all while drinking wine and other beverages. It WILL be fun and we hope to get donations from everyone by giving a bottle of our famous Altered States Apple 2015 to all who make a donation of any size to any of our charities . We will be serving a terrific dinner of pulled creamed chicken sandwiches and tons of sides at about 5 pm, with more games, conversations, tours of the vineyard, and bonfire afterward. Again, it WILL BE FUN ! Plan to join us / save the date. Look for more specific information in our next News posting in August.
Our mission:
We want our vineyard and future apple orchard to be a vehicle which raises awareness of and contributions to our 3 great charities. The work that they each perform each day makes our local and world communities a more healthy, peaceful, and prosperous place. We at Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard know that we all become fuller, richer, and healthier when our neighbors prosper, as we are ultimately all connected in this universe we live.
With that thought in mind we would like to highlight one of our charities, People Serving People with a little information of their progress in Minneapolis. They operate 99 emergency shelter housing units for children and families experiencing homelessness, where each family has a safe and clean environment, 3 nutritious meals daily, diapers and other basic necessities. After these immediate basic needs are met, families are ready to use the following comprehensive Family Support Services in order to more towards self-sufficiency:
- Advocacy: One-on one work with families to address their barriers and connect them with community resources for housing, legal, medical, dental and other services to empower them to return to self-sufficiency.
- Culinary Arts Training: 13 week classroom and hands-on training, preparing graduates to obtain stable jobs in the high-demand food services industry.
- Early Child Development Program: An on-site 4-star Parent Aware rated program serving younger children, focusing on areas of development that may be adversely affected by homelessness. There is no more critical and cost-effective way to profoundly affect these childrens future lives for the benefit of them and all of us.
Their Vision: PSP envisions a community in which all children have the stability and support they need to develop their full capacity to thrive.
Their Mission: PSP helps homeless and at-risk children and their families manage crisis situations and build a strong foundation for their long-term success.
People Serving People is making our Minneapolis community a better place in so many ways, as when a family functions better this positively affects so many others in our community, and ultimately all of us. Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard is a proud supporter of this wonderful organization!
As always all who follow us have our open invitation for you to visit us any time you may be in the Pepin area, just give Jim a call as we are their most but not all weekends, and many weekdays.
Peace and Charity ( don’t we all need a little more of both! ),
