Time to Rest After an Exciting Year
After one exciting year, our vineyard is resting. In 2014 we suffered a COLD bud-damaging Winter, followed by lots of work all Summer long finally leading to a quantity-poor but fun-rich Harvest – we had a great time!
The vineyard is now fully planted, so no planting in June this year, however you are all invited to stop by and visit anytime (we love taking breaks) all Summer! We will have 2 Harvests next Fall, expecting 6,000 pounds of Marquette grapes and 1,000 pounds of Prairie Star. They are unlikely to be harvest ready together, as each varietal has different sugar and acid levels that the winery is looking for. Drop me a notice at 763-354-0880 if you’re down our way.
If you are interested in coming out in the early spring, we will be “Pruning” in March and April. It is tough work, but can be fun! We will post a notice in News & Events section of our website in February with dates if any hardy souls are so inclined can join us.
This year we donated 100% of our grape income ($630.00) from the harvest (no deduction for expenses, as that would have eaten up the income twice!) to 2 great charities Habitat For Humanity of Minnesota and the Central Asia Institute . We can ALL be proud to have contributed to the fact that 3,300 Minnesota families in need have quality and affordable housing, every day they are making their communities, and our lives better – for generations to come. Similarly, 60,000 students, mainly girls, are getting an education in Pakistan and Afganistan. This will help break the cycle of ignorance and violence, and redirect this troubled area onto a more secure and peaceful path.
We believe that we are all connected in this world, when we help others to live a better life, our lives improve also. All these people that we help will make others better – and on and on.
Once again, THANKS TO ALL who helped make our charitable vineyard a success during 2014! Please view our Pictures, which are actually labelled! And be sure to visit our Financial Donation section to view all of our donation receipts to our various charities. In particular, the receipt from Jan Plimpton of Habitat For Humanities of Minnesota was so nicely worded. Thank you Jan!
Some Quick Final Thoughts:
I obviously lost some pictures off my I-phone ( lost in the Cloud ? ), so sorry to Dan, Julie, Phil, Rene, and Jack. I am “Internet-challenged” but be rest assured we had a great time afterward!
Finally, we all thank Ryan Finley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa for keeping this website so functional and well-organized. Ryan, you keep us communicating!
Peace and Charity,
Jim, Linda, and the Board of Lost Creek Hippies Vineyard
PS: Be assured that we will never call and nag people to help us in the vineyard but we do encourage everyone to spread the word!
