Join Us for Our 10th Annual Fun(d) Raising Party!

Summer always seems to fly by—and somehow, it feels like it speeds up a little more each year. That’s not exactly ideal, especially when we’re trying to make time to get together with our three daughters, their families, and friends both near and far. Throw in live music events, caring for our home in Coon Rapids, and maintaining a 110-year-old farmhouse and apple orchard in Pepin, Wisconsin, and it can be tough to find a single day to catch our breath.

That said, we truly enjoy it all—although the recent increase in animal activity on the farm has certainly kept us busy. We’ve been relocating raccoons, opossums, and other pesky critters to far-off places. Perhaps that’s what’s keeping us young!

We hope you’re staying healthy and happy, and that you’re able to spend some quality time this summer with your own family and friends.

We are very pleased to be continuing to host our 10th Annual Fun(d) Raising Party on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at our farm and apple orchard in Pepin, Wisconsin. Your friends and family are most welcome to join you, and we will enjoy meeting them. Children of all sizes are welcome—we even have a play area for the really little ones!

The party will begin at 1:00 p.m. with an afternoon of beverages, snacks, cornhole, and several other semi-challenging but always enjoyable games. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., and everyone is welcome to stay and visit into the evening. Should you prefer to stay overnight, we will find a place for you!

Our past events have featured music from three wonderful musical groups, each a joy in their own unique way. We hope one of them will once again be able to share their outstanding talents with us—we will see what this year may bring! They generously volunteer their wonderfully pleasurable sounds and help make our event even more memorable.

If the urge overwhelms you, feel free to bring a small snack or dessert to share. That is always appreciated, but only if it works for you.

We raise donations for our three adopted charities by asking each guest to make out a check, in any amount, directly to one of them. Everyone who attends will also take home a bottle of our 2019 Altered States Apple Wine as our way of saying thank you for attending and helping us improve the lives of our neighbors, both locally and around the world.

As a token of our appreciation, we will match 100% of every donation made to one of our charities!

Within one month of the event, we will post the total receipts from each charity—including our matching contributions—in the Financial Section of our website. Your privacy will be protected. You will receive acknowledgment of your tax-deductible contribution directly from each charity to which you donate, so please include or attach your mailing address or email address to your check.

Our three charities remain active in their respective missions, and we are always excited to learn about the progress they are making to help our fellow human beings thrive:

• Hope Coalition:
  Providing comprehensive services to women struggling with abuse and homelessness, and to their children, in the Lake Pepin area of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Services include temporary housing, counseling, and employment assistance.
• Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota:
  Providing financially challenged individuals and families with opportunities to obtain and own affordable, quality housing—benefiting those families and helping stabilize their communities.
• Central Asia Institute, Bozeman, Montana:
  Providing education and employment opportunities to rural residents, particularly women, in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. Each country presents unique challenges, yet the organization continues to make meaningful progress. Please follow the link on our website to learn more about its work.

We’ve said this in the past, but it bears repeating: We are all ultimately bound together as human beings. When we help another person succeed, our own lives and our entire society are improved by that success.

We are well aware that all of you perform these acts of kindness every day—helping a family member or friend, contributing to churches and social groups, working on political campaigns, and supporting community activities. Our Annual Fall Fun(d) Raising Party is simply our way of helping others succeed and giving back to a society that has given us so much.

We will continue doing this for as long as it works. We also greatly enjoy reconnecting with so many of you who have helped with the planting and harvesting of our vineyard—and, frankly, we love a fun party!

If you cannot attend the event but would still like to contribute, feel free to mail a check made payable directly to one of our charities, addressed to James Lee at the farm address above. Please make sure it reaches us within three days of the event, as we promptly total the donations, add our matching contributions, and mail everything to the charities.

We also request prompt receipts from each organization and post the information in the Financial Donations section of our website so you can be confident that we do what we say.

For nearly 40 years, we have had a connection with a group in Key West, Florida, called One Human Family. They have mailed millions of bumper stickers around the world. Visit their website and request one for free. They believe:
